Gary Kristen Sports SpeakerAs an international cricketer, Gary Kirsten was known by his peers as a man on whom the whole team could depend on in times of crisis.
As an operating batsman, his ability to withstand enormous pressure from the fastest bowlers and the most guile (and cunning) of the most crafted spinners, was legendary. Gary’s ability to score a century every Test playing nation, bears testimony to his endurance to all conditions and to understand the dynamics of every bowling attack. Gary’s greatest achievement with the bat will always be the record-equalling score of 275 against England, an innings that lasted over 14 hours and 30 minutes. This epitomized his complete self-discipline. In playing 101 Tests and 185 ODI’s, he gained an insight to a world understood by very few people. By his own admission, his ability and technique needed to be complimented with a temperament that demanded absolute dedication to further self-improvement and reflection. This period moulded his outlook on the game and he began a process that will be forever known as his finest hour – the coach of Team India that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. As a coach and mentor to some of the greatest players in the history of cricket, Gary needed to understand the dynamics that would see them perform consistently over a period of time, at crucial moments. Gary created a winning culture and a sense of self-belief in the Indian team. The experience and insight gained throughout his tenure as Coach of India includes far more than cricket itself. His skill takes credit for getting the best out of his players whilst maintaining their respect – both on and off of the field. He is an inspirational leader. They went on to beat Australia away from home and Pakistan in South Africa to retain the No. 1 ranking for 2013. He is looking to build on his successes with Team India, by further unlocking the potential within the South African cricket system, identifying key young players. Gary offers the following to his audience:
Known for his straightforward approach, Gary Kirsten has the knack of simplifying often complicated issues. His passion for excellence and accountability is infectious. |
