Farhan Akhtar is a film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, playback singer, lyricist and television host. Born in Mumbai to screenwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, he grew up under the influence of the Hindi film industry. He began his Bollywood career as an assistant director in film Lamhe (1991) and Himalay Putra (1997). He made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai (2001) under his production company Excel Entertainment. The film won a National award. H also wrote lyrics for Hollywood film Bride and Prejudice (2004). Akhtar started his acting career with Rock On!! (2008), for which he won a second National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi as producer. His film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) won him two Filmfare Awards, including Best Supporting Actor. In 2013, he portrayed Milkha Singh in film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, earning him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His other successful film includes - Don (2006), short-film Positive (2007), Don 2 (2011), Wazir (2016), Dil Dhadakne Do (2016) and Rock On 2 (2016).

Farhan Akhtar is also the South Asia Goodwill Ambassador of UN Women, the United Nations organization . Farhan is the first man to be chosen as a Goodwill Ambassador in the organization’s history.
