He was the first player to complete 5,000 runs and 400 wickets in Tests. He has been conferred with the Indian civilian award of Padma Bhushan. He is the first player to take 200 ODI wickets. He is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5000 runs in Tests, making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game.
